Special Investigators Advisory Committee Meeting
April 8,2003
Wake County Commons Building
In Paul Burge’s absence, the meeting was called to order by Shelia Dorsett, Mr. Burge’s alternate.
Sheila requested that all new members give their e-mail addresses on the sign-up sheet.
DSS- Debbie Knowles reported that TOP year to date collections were $1.6 million dollars and DOR year to date collections were $1 million dollars.
Debbie also clarified that the recent request which was sent to counties concerning DSS 8648 contained an error. A request was made for information for the 3rd quarter of 2002. She asked that we only complete the report for the 1st quarter of 2003.
A Clean Up Letter for Duplicate Disqualifications was sent to affected counties. She requested that if your county has any cases on this report you need to notify Joe King so that they can be deleted.
Debbie mentioned that DHHS is in the process to doing some reorganization effective May 1,2003.
Suzanne Marshall will be at next month’s SIAC to speak to us about this.
EPICS- No Report
USDA- No Report
Shelia then asked for volunteers for the committees to work on SIAC’s short and long term goals.
Sign -up sheets for each goal were passed around.
Diane Daniel, conference chair, stated that the conference in High Point was a success. Most of the evaluations received were positive. There were people who stated on their evaluations that they would like to serve on the planning committee for next year. It was suggested that these people attend SIAC since the planning committee meets after SIAC. We do not have the final figures from the Radisson. We had 120 attendees and 3 banquet only. There were 4 fees waived for presenters only.
Sheila Dorsett, as treasurer of the conference, has requested an itemized bill from the Radisson but has not received it at this time.
The minutes from the March 2003 SIAC meeting held at the Radisson, High Point were read and approved.
DMA Brenda Porter reported that collections from July 2002 to March 2003 were $1,400,599.33. She also introduced Shara Britt as new partner at DMA.
Brenda stated that she had talked to Paul Burge who requested that SIAC form a committee of 7 to 9 people who will work to change the status of investigator positions to mandated positions.
This committee will collect data to show the cost effectiveness of a fully staffed Program Integrity Unit. He suggested that the committee compile data comparing collection prior to the cutbacks in positions and the current collection for the counties. His suggestion was that data from 10 counties be used. Volunteers were requested for this committee.
Shelia emphasized that all committees of SIAC MUST report back to the full committee monthly.
The question was asked if any members of SIAC were attending the ESC committee meetings. Craig Burris, Peggy Robinson and several others stated that they were planning to go the ESC on Wednesday. Shelia stated that there were major changes to Food Stamp policy effective June1 and recommended that everyone check with their respective Food Stamp supervisors as to training.
The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be May 6, 2003 at the DMA Building.
