FamilyNet/Leading By Results/Nexus Project Update/Discussion

Mr. Johnson opened up the discussion by bringing the committee up-to-date on recent changes occurring with the Nexus Project. The general framework of the Nexus Project is created to enhance system reforms: i.e. FamilyNet, LBR, and MRS, which also seems to be in line with LBR Task Force discussion regarding accreditation. The goal is to create an assessment tool with how projects can help enhance an entire agency. Counties can then use the assessment to create a business plan and decide which system reform(s) will work best for them. Mr. Johnson suggested that the Professional Capacity Committee continue to look at areas of professional development that align with the Nexus project. It was requested that Chris Howell email the PowerPoint that was presented at the Executive Board meeting in New Bern to the Professional Capacity Committee for review.

Since this model appears to be the first of its kind for human services, it was suggested that additional research be done to assist in development. Jack Rogers offered a review of Wake County 's model. Mr. Johnson also requested that the committee review a new accreditation model that will offer counties new ideas. Mr. Burrus suggested adding a “current trends” track to the professional development plan and during the new director's orientation.

It was noted that the Z. Smith Reynolds grant requires a $25K match, and that Sammy Haithcock has applied for a matching grant through the Broyhill Foundation. It was also noted that Mr. Haithcock is the official chair of the FamilyNet subcommittee and will provide monthly progress reports at future meetings.
