Conference Updates

Ms. Pygott gave the committee a brief overview of the Building Success: Personnel, Technology, and Training & Development Conference progress. She also provided updates on the DSS Directors Annual Meeting May 12-14 in Asheville and the potential methamphetamine conference on June 3 rd in Asheville . Ms. Bradshaw added that during a recent meeting between members of the Exec. Comm., Prof. Cap. co-chairs, and OSP representatives (Patrick McCoy and Drake Maynard), OSP expressed a need to coordinate the scheduling of trainings throughout the year with NCACDSS such that they could accomplish training they really needed to – such as qualifications training, FMLA, Employee Relations, etc. They expressed difficulties they were experiencing in trying to get this type of training scheduled around NCACDSS conferences/regional meetings/etc. An agreement was made to work together in getting all desired trainings offered. A consensus from the group was to coordinate dates and locations such that OSP would set up trainings they needed to a day before and in the same location as meetings throughout the year…such as the Regional Mtgs., Personnel Conferences, Institutes, etc.

IOG Legal Training

Ms. Bradshaw and Mr. Marett discussed their meeting with IOG representatives John Saxon and Janet Mason. Also in the meeting were Jill Moore and Aimee Wall, also with IOG. The group discussed the potential of hosting training on legal issues for DSS Directors. The training could consist of a joint session with public health directors on common issues then breakout groups to cover specialty training for each specific group of directors. IOG representatives prefer hosting the conference for 1-1½ days at the IOG campus. Ms. O'Neal recommended discussion around the relation between personnel and legal matters surrounding liability issues. Ms. Bradshaw and Mr. Marett will bring details to Executive Board for approval to move forward.
