Committee: Finance
Committee Date:
Location: NCACDSS
Office Time:
Attendees: Sharon Scott, Tony Beaman, Karen George
Issue Summary: 1. Committee members approved
the scope of work to go to the Executive Committee for approval. 2. A draft was presented of
By-Law language for affiliate memberships. The draft states that Affiliate
members must be approved by the Board, do NOT have voting rights, but have
opportunities to provide input and feedback to the Association. It will be
brought before the Board for approval. 3. A draft was presented of a tiered
affiliate membership. It has a gold and silver level membership with an
increase in price for gold membership because of additional benefits. There are three categories of
affiliates: Student, Individual, and Organizational. A draft of the tiered
affiliate membership will be submitted to the Board for approval. 4. The committee was asked by
the Board to decide if a donation should be provided for the 5. The Association was
approached by Myelitia Melton with SpeakEasy Communications about a
partnership to distribute their “Survival Spanish for Social Services CD”
through our Association. It is an hour long CD that teaches basic
conversation skills in Spanish. The cost is $19.95 but they would give us
a 25% discount so we could realize a $5 dollar profit off each. The committee
agreed to the Association moving forward with the partnership. 6 This year to date the
Association has brought in about $30,000 in dues, $6,000 for the Fiscal
conference, $20,000 in consortium dues, and $2,000 profit from the
Institute (after a $10,000 contribution by the state). We hope to realize
$6,000 for the MRS conference, $2,500 from the annual meeting, and some
additional revenue from the DSS Directory. This means that we will have
brought in about $65,000 in revenue this year, which is significantly less
than our operating costs. In the past, the Association has received major
funding from the state through payments for the Institute and conferences
as well as grants. We only received $10,000 this year from the state from
the Institute and do not know if we can expect to receive anything from
them next year. Discussion was held about a part-time fundraiser position
and other revenue raising options. The committee felt that grants would be
very important in continuing to help underwrite the cost of the
Association. If the DV grant that was submitted is not awarded to the
Association, the committee will begin to re-evaluate current operating
cost, including staff. Position or Policy Recommendation for Board Action: Approval of
draft By-Law language for Affiliate Membership. Approval of
tiered Affiliate Membership. To provide input or seek more information, you may
