The Economic Services Committee had a very active year, meeting eleven times. Attendance for the meetings was very good, usually averaging 50+ people. This committee is a joint committee with NCSSA. George Perry, Pitt County and Connie Melville, Onslow County are NCSSA Co Chairs. The committee has a wide range of county participation from very small counties to very large counties, which gives a broader perspective for policy implementation.
The Committee is comprised of NCSSA members and mostly Director designees. There are three standing sub-committees with co-chairs who review program policy from Medical Assistance, Food Stamps, and Work First. State Staff from DSS and DMA speak to the entire committee regarding pertinent issues that are on the forefront.
The Subcommittees then meet and review respective policy material, which has been forwarded by e-mail for review prior to the meeting. There had been a lot of policy to review this year, making it necessary at time for a sub committee to come in an hour early in order to have time to cover all the subject matter.
The Economic Services Committee has dedicated members who put forth effort and time reviewing proposed material. The State Staff from all areas are receptive to suggestions from Committee members and include suggestions whenever possible.
