Discussion of DSS wards returning to community |
|||
Discussion: An email has been circulated among the Directors from Donn Gunderson (Craven County Director) regarding information that he had received recently, which targets DSS wards in institutions to be moved to the community immediately. Committee discussed concerns regarding appropriate placements for these individuals and why DSS wards are being targeted. Committee questioned if information was available on the state-level as to how many DSS wards were institutionalized. Suzanne Merrill stated that the state had only recently begun collecting this information therefore; they could not provide this information. A representative from the state Mental Health is speaking on this subject at the Executive Board Meeting tomorrow, which Judy Pelt will attend. The committee requested that someone from state Mental Health attend the February meeting if questions were not addressed tomorrow. The committee also requested that we attempt to gather from Directors how many wards are institutionalized. Judy Pelt will send out a request for this information.

Conclusion: Judy Pelt to attend the Executive Board to hear discussion on DSS wards and deinstitutionalization and will email directors to determine location of wards.
