Present: Minutes not available as Beverly Warren took them and she has been sick and unable to complete them.

•  Proposed Changes to Chapter VII of the Family Services Manual – John Margolis

Discussion: Vol. V, Chapter VII (Adult Protective Services), Section 6510 of the Family Services Manual is being revised to be consistent with administrative rules that state that when evidence of financial exploitation is found in Medicaid-funded facilities, the county DSS shall send a copy of the written report to DMA. Current guidelines state that the written report should not be used as a means of notification to DMA. New social work practice guidelines are being issued to clarify how to handle notifying the disabled adult when closing a substantiated APS case.

Conclusion: Sheri Slater made a motion to request that the Executive Board endorse these changes. Susan McCracken seconded and motion carried.

•  Update on revision of Vol. VI, Chapter II – Vicky Church

Discussion: A time-limited workgroup is being formed to review a draft of a revision of Vol. VI, Chapter II of the Family Services Manual. This workgroup will begin meeting on January 27, 2004 and will meet 4-6 times during the year. Volunteers are being solicited to serve on this committee. Anyone interested should email Vicky Church at vicky.church@ncmail.net immediately as the workgroup will be appointed by mid-December.

 

Conclusion: Volunteers are needed to serve on this workgroup.

•  Merger Issues – Suzanne Merrill and Karen Gottovi

Discussion: Work has begun on a name change to incorporate Adult Services with the Division of Aging. This will have to go to the General Assembly, as it will require a technical change to the General Statutes. The Division of Aging and Adult Services is being considered. A discussion was held and the name Division of Adult and Aging Services was suggested. Adult Services will be moving to the Taylor Building sometime in January. The Division continues to work on Administrative details of the merger. The Transition Team, on which Judy Pelt, Beverly Warren, and John Wasson are members, will begin meeting tomorrow.

Conclusion: The Division of Aging is requesting a letter from the Executive Board endorsing a name change that would better reflect the services offered.

 

Action Items: Request a letter of endorsement from the Executive Board.
