NC House says yes to Medicaid Relief for Counties! - June 9, 2006

Miracles do happen!

The House HHS committee approved a budget late this afternoon that will set aside $53 million in funding to cap the counties' share of Medicaid expenses at this year's levels and provide relief to counties with the highest populations of Medicaid recipients. The committee talked favorably about providing this relief to counties but I really didn't think they would come through with the money. The Senate and Easley's budget didn't contain this assistance.

Child Care Subsidies - $15,096,395

Provides funding to maintain existing caseload and remove 1,752 children from the waiting list.  Additional funding in the TANF Block Grant for child care subsidies in the amount of $53,237,268 to remove 4,054 children from the waiting list.  Smart Start money will also be available for subsidies.

I will prepare a detailed report of the HHS budget on Friday.
