Social Services Consortium Members

The House and Senate Conferees are hard at work trying to come up with a budget. Their leadership met with the Governor's office this week to discuss some of their recommendations. There are only a couple of weeks left in the continuing budget resolution so the pressure is on to come up with the budget ASAP. To encourage movement and compromise, Senator Basnight cancelled all committee meetings in the Senate to keep the focus on completing the budget. This also puts pressure on the House members to cooperate in budget talks as many of them have bills that made crossover and are in the Senate now waiting to be heard in committee.

Subcommittee conferee members are no longer holding public meetings and word on the street is they are having few meetings now in private. Most everything they could decide has been done and the rest has been sent to the “big chairs” for the final decisions. Of course, most of those decisions cannot be made until they come to an agreement on the big tax issues so they know the revenue that is available.

Attached is an updated spreadsheet of important bills that impact DSS. There are some additional bills floating around that could have an effect on DSS but have been removed from the list because they didn't make crossover or have been sent to a committee to die a slow death!
