The first meeting dates have been set for the House Interim Committee on Child
Abuse, Neglect, Foster Care and Adoption.
Please mark your calendars!!
Wednesday, November 5th, from 1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. (ish)
Thursday, November 6th, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (ish)
We need to have a presence at these meetings. I have attached the charge of
the committee - please note they are going to be looking at the child welfare
and foster care/adoption laws. I would encourage any Director or staff who
would like to attend to please do so. Once I have the room number for the
meeting at the General Assembly I will let you know.
We have been told that the first couple of meetings will have to serve as
information sessions as most of the committee members have little to no knowledge
about DSS.
Please review the list below of legislators on the committee - if you have
a legislator in your District, PLEASE make contact to help educate them on
the child welfare system. I have attached our agenda items in response to
the child welfare concerns raised by the Charlotte and Greensboro articles
on child fatalities. The Advocacy committee is working on more detailed talking
points for each agenda item that will be sent out later.
